For her love and her dream, YANG Caihong (means “rainbow” in Chinese), a girl growing up in the town, comes to Lanxi Village with her boyfriend LI Wenguang to work as primary school teachers after graduating from a normal college. However LI Wenguang has been gradually dissatisfied with the poverty of the countryside and their love since he left the village for further studies. On the eve of their wedding, LI Wenguang returns to his hometown and asks to cancel their marriage, which shocks everyone. Though losing love, Caihong determines to go on teaching there because of her attachment to the village and the local children. ZHOU Luoping, a disabled veteran and upright village head, falls in love with Caihong, but never dares to show his love. The frustration of losing love and overwork cause Caihong to fall sick and faint in class, which prompts ZHOU Luoping to express his love to her. After recovering from illness, Caihong accepts ZHOU Luoping’s love, which makes the whole village full of happiness once again, but tragedy comes quietly at this time.
