Highlights of the current season include the premiere of Peter Eotvos' Speaking Drums – Four Poems for percussion solo and orchestra, Martin's debut with the National Symphony Orchestra Washington and a number of high-profile tours with the Wiener Philharmoniker, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Camerata Salzburg amongst others, with performances throughout Europe.
Dubbed a 'wizard of percussion' by the press, Grubinger has an ever-growing list of work written especially for him, including Avner Dorman's Frozen in Time (2007), Friedrich Cerha's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra (2008) and Tan Dun's concerto, Tears of Nature (2012). His unusually large repertoire ranges from solo works and chamber music, with partners including his own Percussive Planet Ensemble and pianists Ferhan and Ferzan Onder, to percussion concertos.
A sought-after recitalist and soloist with the leading orchestras world-wide, Martin Grubinger was the youngest-ever finalist at the World Marimbaphone Competition in Japan and has received both the Bernstein Award by the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival and the Jeunesses Musicales's Würth Prize.
Grubinger's first CD, Drums 'n' Chant (released in October 2010) was soon followed by a live recording of The Percussive Planet on DVD, both for Deutsche Grammophon. He has since recorded a number of projects for various labels.
