Liaoning Ballet of China
Founded in 1980, Liaoning Ballet of China is one of the leading Chinese ballet companies.
While insisting on introducing and presenting classical ballets, Liaoning Ballet of China is committed to creating ballet works with Chinese characteristics, and has achieved remarkable results in contributing to the establishment of the Chinese school of ballet.
Since its establishment, Liaoning Ballet of China has staged dozens of world-renowned ballets, such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, La Sylphide, Le Corsaire and Don Quixote, and has co-produced and performed Spartacus and Romeo and Juliet with the ballet master Yury Grigorovich, setting a precedent in China. In addition to performing classic works, the company also actively collaborates with international maestros to create “new classics”. The company launched a new version of the ballet Swan Lake with Malakhov, and co-created modern ballets The Butterfly Lovers and A Song Without Words with renowned Portuguese choreographer Rui Manuel Lopes Graca. The company has also produced and presented the Chinese style ballets The Legend of LIANG Shanbo and ZHU Yingtai (The Butterfly Lovers), Gada Mairen, Chinese Blister Beetle, The Moon Reflected on the Er-quan Spring and the modern ballet The Last Emperor. In recent years, it has devoted itself to creating original Chinese ballets with distinctive regional cultural characteristics, such as the ballet Lullaby of the Liao River, which is filled with Liaoning’s local flavour, the original ballet Eight Heroines, which reflects the spirit of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, and Mulan, which is about a legendary girl who personifies virtues such as filial piety, fraternity, loyalty and faithfulness, thus contributing original works of historical and artistic value and popular appeal to the development of Chinese ballet.
Founded in 1994, the Ballet School affiliated to Liaoning Ballet of China is the largest professional ballet dancer training base in the world, with nearly 600 students enrolled. Established on December 24th, 2018, the Youth Ballet Company of the Ballet School affiliated to Liaoning Ballet of China is the first professional youth ballet company in China. The Liaoning Ballet of China and its affiliated ballet school have cooperated extensively with countries leading the world in ballet, both in terms of artistic creation and education. They have collaborated with ballet theatres and choreographers from France, Germany, Russia, the US, South Africa and Denmark, making positive explorations for the international exchange of Chinese ballet. They also invite renowned experts from home and abroad to guide and rehearse with the company and school. They have toured all over Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and North and South America, participating in various professional ballet competitions every year. They have carried off special prizes and gold medals in the four major international ballet competitions, which have produced talents and expanded their market while fostering artistic creation.
