LI Xintong Soprano
LI Xintong is an NCPA resident opera singer and a soprano. She has starred in more than 20 Chinese and foreign operas at NCPA, including Carmen, La Bohème, Le Nozze di Figaro, Rickshaw Boy, L’italiana in Algeri, The Fisherman and the Goldfish, The Long March, The Dawns Here Are Quiet, LAN Huahua, and A Village Teacher. She serves as the lead soprano and a soloist in the symphony Peer Gynt and at the symphony concert Beijing Cantata.
She holds a master’s degree in vocal education from the New England Conservatory. She has played in operas including Thunderstorm, Il Tabarro, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Turandot, Carmen, White Deer Plain, and Flying to the Moon. She has won honours including the Second Place in the NATS competition, and the Second Place in the 5th “Madama Butterfly Vocal Competition, Nagasaki, Japan”,and she successfully held a concert in Osaka the following year.
She played Xiaofuzi in the opera Rickshaw Boy and toured in Italy. She has also played Lisa in NCPA opera film The Dawns Here Are Quiet. The film has been awarded Prix Lumières and was staged at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2019, becoming a massive hit in Russia. In 2012, she worked with the Zhuhai Huafa Group in recording the symphony chorus Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 as the lead soprano.
ZHANG Wenqin Coloratura Soprano
ZHANG Wenqin is an NCPA resident opera singer and a lyric coloratura soprano. She has starred in NCPA operas including Un Ballo in Maschera (Oscar), Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Olympia), Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), La Bohème (Musetta), and children’s opera commission Snow White (Snow White). She has also played a part in the opera Thaïs (Witch).
Moreover, she plays Adina in L’Elisir D’Amore, Zerlina in Don Juan, Danzhu in Red River Valley, Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Despina in Così fan tutte, Glida in Rigoletto, and Adele in Die Fledermaus.
She has won awards including the Golden Bell Award in the 11th Chinese Golden Awards for Voical Music (Bel Canto), the Second Place in the 2nd International Music Competition Harbin, the First Place in the 3rd Paolo Coni Opera & Vocal Competition, the First Place in the Bruson Award in the Renato Bruson International Music Competition, the Fourth Place in the Ningbo International Vocal Competition, the First Prize in the Postgraduate Group of the Third Central Conservatory of Music National Song Competition (French) for Art Colleges, the First Prize in the Postgraduate Bel Canto Group of the Chinese Peafowl Award National Vocal Competition for Art Colleges, and the First Prize in the 2nd International Opera & Vocal Competition for College Students.
LIANG Yufeng Tenor
LIANG Yufeng is a young tenor and honourary artist of the NCPA. His teacher is LIU Weiwei, a famous tenor. He graduated from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China with a degree in communication engineering in 2009, and was admitted to the China NCPA Chorus that same year. Since then, he has successively acted in more than 50 Chinese and foreign operas, and has served as a soloist or lead singer at many concerts held by the NCPA. His performance in the operas and concerts is widely acclaimed by the audience. LIANG Yufeng is the NCPA Chorus Managing Director and Head of the Tenor Part.
LIANG Yufeng plays a part in the opera Falstaff (Dr. Caius), a co-production of the NCPA and Vienna State Opera; the NCPA operas Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Natanelle/Spalanzani), Le Nozze di Figaro (Basilio/Judge), Carmen (El Remendado), Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) (Berlioees), Der Rosenkavalier (Lady Marshall’s Butler/Innkeeper), Rusalka (The Hunter), and La Traviata (Giuseppe); the NCPA Chinese opera commission The Song of Youth (YU Yongze), Chinese epic opera commission The Long March (Boy Ping), and national opera commission Minning Town (Debao), NCPA classic national opera The Daughter of the Party (CHENG), children’s opera commission A Story about Growing up (The Unhappy Boy in Adulthood), and Chinese opera commissions Jinsha River (MIAO), Xishi (Bopi), The Red Guards on Honghu Lake (Laoyao), Rickshaw Boy (Platoon Leader SUN/Detective SUN), Visitors on the Snow Mountain (Third Platoon Leader), and FANG Zhimin (Jailer A).
WANG Chong Tenor
WANG Chong is an NCPA resident singer and a tenor. He has starred in many NCPA operas including Die Fledermaus, The Long March, Rickshaw Boy, FANG Zhimin, Visitors on the Snow Mountain, etc. In addition to acting in the opera Macbeth with Plácido Domingo, the “King of Opera”, he has played a leading role in operas including Der Fliegende Holländer, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Il Trovatore, Norma, etc. He also led the singing of the song "Ode to Peace" at the Belt and Road Evening Gala A Millennium Promise.
He used to study in the U.S., where he became a signed singer of the San Francisco Opera, as a member of its Adler Young Artist Programme, and played Erath in the epic opera Troy, the first to be staged in the music season. Mr. WANG received high praise from maestro Donald Rangnicks. He played Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Mr. Nicola Luisotti, Music Director of the San Francisco Opera, praised him as a "real Verdi tenor with an Italian-style voice". He played a part in The Magic Flute and Luisa Miller, and cooperated with the American pianist Martin Katz.
LIU Siman Alto
LIU Siman, a young alto, holds a master’s degree in Opera Performance from the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi di Milano.
LIU Siman has won many domestic and international vocal awards including the Second Prize in the “2021 VINCERÒ International Vocal Competition” China Division, the Second Place in the First “Sorrento International Vocal & Opera Competition”, the Second Place in the “Second Canada International Competition for Vocal Artists”, the Third Place in the “Bellini International Vocal Competition” China Division, etc.
LIU Siman has cooperated with many famous Chinese and foreign conductors including LÜ Jia, LI Xincao, XU Zhong, LI Haoran, ZHANG Chengjie, WANG Linlin, DONG Junjie, Anna Brandolini, and Mirca Rosciani. She has featured in lots of operas and masses including Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri, Verdi’s Nabucco, Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Dvorák’s Stabat Mater, Verdi’s Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, etc.
LIU Siman has held numerous solo concerts in Milan, Italy, Beijing, Inner Mongolia, etc., and appeared as a concert singer at the Teatro Regio di Torino, Wiener Hall Salzburg, NCPA Concert Hall, Tianjin Juilliard School Concert Hall, Grand Theatre of the Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, Shanghai Grand Theatre, etc. She is an opera singer who has signed on with the Teatro dell’Opera di Monaco Mario, Treviso, Italia.
ZHANG Yang Baritone
ZHANG Yang is an opera singer and baritone at the NCPA. In addition to Andrea Chenier, a co-production of the NCPA, Royal Opera House and San Francisco Opera, He has also played a role in the NCPA operas Simon Boccanegra, The Dawns Here Are Quiet, FANG Zhimin, La Gioconda, Carmen, Le Nozze di Figaro, Turandot, Lucia di Lammermoor, Roméo et Juliette, Un Ballo in Maschera and Don Juan, and children’s opera Effendi. He served as lead vocalist of the song Shared Home - Ode to Peace at the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation.
He is a graduate of the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art and Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma. He used to study under world-renowned soprano Mirella Freni, world-renowned baritone Aleda Corbeili, and baritone QU Bo. He won first place in the “Anita cerqueti” International Vocal Competition, Italy. He also won first place in the “Cubec” International Vocal Master Class in Modena, Italy. The operas starring him around the world include Le Nozze di Figaro, La Bohème, Falstaff, etc.
In 2013, he graduated from the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma with full marks. Later that year, he gave a performance at a concert of Verdi’s operas upon the invitation of the Teatro alla Scala and Teatro Regio di Parma.
WANG Chao Young Male Role Player in Peking Opera
WANG Chao is an outstanding young male role player at the Jingju Theater Company of Beijing. He is a graduate of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, once studying under LIN Maorong, XIAO Runde, YU Wanzeng, LIU Yaochun, LI Lianzhong, JIANG Qihu, BAO Fei, ZHANG Yao, etc. He excels at performing in Peking operas LUO Cheng Calls the Gate Open, Yumen Pass, Unexpected Reunion, The Meeting of Heroes, Story of Coloured Chamber, etc. In his repertoire are new operas including Return of Monkey King, The Outburst of a Virago, A Dream of Red Mansions: Women in Love, and New False Bride.
ZHAO Ning Xihe Dagu Artist
ZHAO Ning is a graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music and Beijing Contemporary Music Academy.
ZHAO Ning has won prizes including the Silver Award in the First “Inheritance of Chinese Cultural Quintessence” Ping Opera TV Competition in 2013, the Finalist Award at the “Star Awards” for Quyi of the Tenth China Art Festival, the Second Prize for Vocal Music in the “Ancient Town in Culture and Talent Show for People” Community Culture Challenge Competition in Zhangjiawan Town in 2014, and the Second Prize in the “Sing for Zhongcang” Singing Competition. In 2015, ZHAO Ning participated in the live recording of a large-scale online course in vocal music entitled “Singing with DAI Yuqiang”, and attended a master class offered by Warren Mok, a world-famous tenor. In 2017, he was awarded the title of “Outstanding Singer” in the Xiyuan National Ping Opera Competition and “Top Ten Fanciers” in the Third “Peace Cup” Quyi Fanciers Invitational.
ZHAO Ling
ZHAO Ling is a member of the NCPA Drama Ensemble. He plays leading roles in the NCPA dramas including Hamlet in Hamlet, Antonio in The Merchant of Venice, LEI Tingchang in The LEI Family, the Royal Architects, and the prisoner Edmond in The Count of Monte Cristo. He also stars as Edmund in the NCPA drama King Lear and Saint John in the NCPA drama Jane Eyre. He also plays a part in the NCPA dramas A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Birds, The Tempest, etc. ZHAO Ling holds an academic degree in theatre, film and TV performance from the PLA Academy of Art. He used to be an actor at the Modern Drama Troupe of General Political Department, acting in lots of dramas, of which Baptism has won many awards throughout the army. He has also starred in many TV dramas including Living On with Smiles, The Colonel's Daughter, The Gift of Maggie, etc. As a dubber, his representative works include Titanic 3D (Jack Dawson), Man of Steel (Superman), Empresses in the Palace (The King of Guo County), etc. A dozen radio dramas starring him, such as Red Ribbon, have won the “Five-One” Project Award by the Publicity Department of the CPC. Heart to heart and The Teacher, two other radio dramas starring him, have won the ABU International Award for Best Radio Drama. In 2013, ZHAO Ling won the 13th Best Radio Actor Award by the Radio Drama Society of China.
