National Traditional Orchestra Academia China
The National Traditional Orchestra Academia China is the core project of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Centre for Chinese National School of Music. Relying on the strengths of the Global Music Education League, the orchestra is open to professional Chinese instrumentalists from both at home and abroad and aims to build itself into an orchestra with world-class artistic standards. The orchestra’s mission is to explore the innovative development of musical theory, composition and performance of Chinese music, to interpret classical Chinese pieces, to spread the voice of China, to tell the story of China and to showcase the excellent Chinese culture to the world. The orchestra will help the China Conservatory of Music build first-class schools and disciplines, helping it to become a high-level, research-oriented university and promoting the five-in-one concerted development covering talent training, academic research, social services, cultural heritage and international exchanges, thus contributing to the construction of the China Conservatory of Music as a world class university.
Professor WANG Liguang, renowned composer and President of the China Conservatory of Music, is the artistic director of the orchestra, and Professor XU Zhijun, renowned conductor and Head of the Chinese Instruments Department of the China Conservatory of Music, is the principal conductor and head of the orchestra.
The Beijing Musician's Association Choir
The Beijing Musician’s Association Choir insists on serving the people with art. Under the strong leadership of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Beijing Musician’s Association, the choir fulfills its mission of holding the banner high, rallying public support, revitalizing the culture and displaying the image. It’s keen on shouldering new responsibilities for nurturing the root and soul of the nation, achieving new achievements in upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground, and cultivating morality to take on a new look. With a strong sense of obligation, responsibility and accomplishment, the choir stands committed to promoting the development of choral art in China, and plays a positive role in prospering the capital art market and building Beijing into a national cultural centre.
The Beijing Musician’s Association Choir, affiliated with the Beijing Musician’s Association, is the only exemplary and leading professional choral ensemble under the association. It is headed by ZHOU Tao as the managing director, ZHENG Jian as the artistic director and principal conductor, ZHAO Jinbo as the consultant, and CHENG Zhi as the vocal art director. The members are either young choristers from various professional art ensembles based in Beijing or graduates of conservatories of music. Being well-trained, pure in voice and highly expressive, they are adept at singing Chinese choral classics and red classics. After its establishment, the choir has appeared at, or performed, the “Culture China” Global Chinese Concert 2018, The Yellow River Cantata, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 at the Hangzhou International Music Festival 2019, the Evening Gala for people from all walks of life held in the capital to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the large-scale symphonic chorus commission Striving for a New Era, the large-scale song cycle commission Great Harmonious World, Ode to the Motherland—A Concert of Choral Classics in celebration of 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the large-scale symphonic chorus Song of the Republic-themed concert, the anti-epidemic-themed song cycle Untitled at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Beijing Music Festival, Heroic Sons and Daughters—A Theatrical Performance in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteers’ participation in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, the large-scale national opera On the Road to Poverty Alleviation, and many other operas including ZHANG Side, Azalea Mountain, etc. The choir was once invited to CCTV for recording Splendid Well-off Life, Song of Well-off Life, A Hundred Years’ Praise, Picturesque Landscape: Special Programme for the 11th National Day, Flowers Greeting Spring by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the large-scale Peking Opera symphonic suite The Grand Canal in the Capital. In 2021, the choir produced and performed the large-scale music epic The East Is Red, which then toured Poly Cinemas across the country, achieving tremendous success. The choir appeared in more than 300 outstanding performances given to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, including Singing for the 100th Anniversary, a large-scale symphonic chorus co-hosted by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and China Musicians Association, The Chorale Suite of Chinese Spirit, People of All Nationalities are of One Mind with the Party, and Rise, a large-scale national symphonic epic by the China Broadcast Art Troupe. The choir often sings at large-scale concerts held by the Publicity Department of the CPC and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, gives performances in the presence of Party and state leaders, and attends important performances organised by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chinese Musicians’ Association, Beijing Musician’s Association, etc. Also, it was once invited to many important performances such as the Beijing Spring Festival Concert, Beijing New Year’s Concert, Olympic Park Summer Concert, Flame Music Festival, etc., winning high praise from both at home and abroad.
