CHEN Xinyi is a famous dramatist, director and playwright and Artistic Director of the “CHEN Xinyi Arts Centre”. She has been engaged in drama creation for 73 years. In the first 30 years, she worked as a traditional opera, film and drama performer. Later, she began to direct stage dramas, write scripts and teach the drama art. Up to now, she has directed more than 150 dramas.

She was one of the first to be awarded the title of National First-Class Director.

She was one of the first to enjoy special government allowances from the State Council.

She is a “National Dramatist Who Has Made Outstanding Contributions” according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and Ministry of Culture of the PRC.

Director CHEN Xinyi’s dramatic works have won the Wenhua Award for 14 times in ten consecutive years, including the Grand Wenhua Award for four times. She wrote a libretto for the Huagnmei opera Huizhou Women, winning the CAO Yu Drama Literature Award. In 2008, she was invited to produce Turandot for the opening of the NCPA. Since then, she has produced eight other dramas one after another including La Bohème, A Village Teacher, The Chinese Orphan, Visitors on the Snow Mountain, Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, LAN Huahua and A Village Teacher (New Version).

In 2012, Turandot won her the Best Director Award at the First Denny Award for International Excellence in Theatrical Arts, Beijing, China, the First Shanghai Magnolia Award for Best Director and the First Award for Promoting Chinese Culture. In 2016, Visitors on the Snow Mountain won the Gold Award at the Fifth Minorities Art Festival of China.

Director CHEN Xinyi has been abroad many times for various international art festivals and cultural exchange activities where she gave lectures. She gave academic reports on the production of operas including The Chinese Orphan and Turandot, dramas The Wilderness and Hamlet, etc., making outstanding contributions to the spread of the Chinese Culture. She also joined in the 60^th National Day Fellowship Activity at the TUM Auditorium, attended the TUM Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Concert held at the Philharmonic Hall, and obtained the golden emblem of TUM.

In August 2019, the “CHEN Shiyi Arts Centre”, led by CHEN Xinyi as Artistic Director, launched its first drama, The Gin Game. In July 2020, CHEN Xinyi presented the classic Shakespearean play Othello with an all-actress cast, and announced the opening of the “CHEN Xinyi Arts Centre Artist Club” after the first round of performance. In October 2020, the CHEN Xinyi Arts Centre’s first drama-based symphonic poem commission, Marquis of Longting CAI Lun, was successfully staged at the People Grand Theater with a cast of artists from Beijing only. In 2022, she worked with Shanghai Kaixinmahua in producing The Merchant of Venice, a classic comedy by Shakespeare. In 2024, the CHEN Xinyi Arts Centre worked with the Fidelio Symphony Orchestra in adapting Marquis of Longting CAI Lun into A Heroic Life: CAI Lun, which was staged at the LSO St. Lukes Theatre, London on October 17^th.

WANG Jing is a set designer and columnist, holding a Bachelor’s Degree from the Stage Art Department, Shanghai Theatre Academy and a Master’s Degree from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, University of London. She won the Prof. Gavin Henderson (CBE) scholarship for research on scenographic design. She was a journalist of E Performance in the UK and a contributing editor at Art Zip (Issue 6), a British art journal. WANG Jing founded her own studio in Cambridge, UK, in 2014, beginning to travel between China and the UK for art creation.

WANG Jing is a young designer with rich experience in theatre production. She specialises in designing for many types of theatrical works including opera, drama and musical. Her representative works include stage drama Sylvia (2016), London’s famous dance theatre Sadler’s Wells’ Ordinary Love, Japanese dramatist Tadashi Suzuki’s 27 Carloads of Cotton for the Asian Directors’ Theatre Festival (2014), the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center Ready to Take Off (2016), A Simple Life (2015), Eternal Life (2014), Perfume (2014), Midsummer (2014) and Doubt (2010), A College Graduate in Military Service at the Theatrical Festival of the Whole Army (2009), opera The Nose at the Beijing Music Festival (2006), Puccini’s opera Il trittico (2008), musical Loulan (2014), The Wonderful Adventures of Nils (2013), etc. The national drama That Mountain, That Water and That Cloud (2005) won the Gold Award at the Third Minorities Art Festival of China.

MO Xiaomin is the costume designer for the NCPA operas Turandot, and A Village Teacher, and drama The Lei Family, the Royal Architects.

MO Xiaomin is a national first-class stage art designer. Majoring in character modeling design, he graduates from Stage Art Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy. He is a dynamic artist in the fields of film, television and stage art, including designs for about 200 TV series, feature films and stage plays, covering almost all artistic categories. His works include the films The Emperor and the Assassin and Warrior Lanling; TV series Genghis Khan, Carol of Zhenguan, Story of MU Family and Legend of Chu and Han; stage plays Liberation and Sounds of Yunnan, etc. He has frequently won such national-level awards as the Wenhua Award, China Golden Eagle TV Art Award, as well as Dora Awards nomination for Best Costume Design, the highest award for Canadian stage art.

SUN Xiaohong is associate professor and master supervisor of Stage Art Department, Central Academy of Drama. In 1981, she studied character modeling at the Jilin Provincial Traditional Opera School. In 1984, she became a make-up designer for the Changchun Opera Theatre. She received the Bachelor’s Degree of Stage Costume Design in 1991. In 2005, she received the Master’s Degree of Make-up Design and Theory of Stage Art. The veteran artist boasts a long list of designs, including the operas YUE Fei, Full-blown Flowers Along the Silk Road in the 33^rd Luoyang Peony Festival, musical The Family, Peking opera The Fourth Son’s Sigh, plays MAO Yisheng, The Diary of Anne Frank and The Horse, musical The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, operas Wushan Goddess and Marguerite, etc.

As early as 1989, Mr. WANG entered Department of Dance, PLA Art Academy where he majored in directing. In 1991, he went to Vancouver, Canada and studied modern dance at the School for the Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University. Upon graduation, he ever served Judith Marcuse Modern Dance, National Ballet of Canada and Ballet BC.

In 2003, he founded Wen Wei Dance, a modern dance troupe. Moreover, his works appeared at the National Arts Theatre of Canada, Canada Dance Festival, The Columbia Festival of the Arts, Singapore Dance Festival and Italy-based La Biennale di Venezia.

He choreographed many pieces for Ballet BC, Alberta Ballet, Beijing Modern Dance Company, Ballets Jazz Montréal, Dance Department of Simon Fraser University, Vancouver Opera and San Francisco Opera. Such wondrous achievements earned him 2000 Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award, 2007 Isadora Duncan Dance Award, 2009 Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award and the 2013 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards.

ZHANG Ziqian’s representative works include Chase, Dr. Godot or Six People Searching for the 18^th Camel, Forgetting Whether the Road is Far or Near, Not Worth Mentioning for Outsiders, Good Days, 7, 8, Long Night, Hamlet, Green Snake, Trinity, Second Farewell, Barbamama, Ants in Love, DU Fu, Red Rose and White Rose, The Yellow Storm, A Doll’s House, GUAN Yu, First-Married Couple, The Belle of Shanghai, Made in China - Return of the Soul, and Beneath Skin: So Close, So Far.

ZUO Weichen now serves as manager of props production group in Stage Art Centre, Stage Technology Department of the NCPA. He once served as the props designer in the NCPA drama commission Wangfujing, music drama The Beautiful Blue Danube: The Story of Johann Strauss' 1872 U.S. Tour and drama A Midsummer Night's Dream, etc. He has also served as the stage designer in commissioned music drama Final Destination and as the prop designer in opera commission Carmen of Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. Graduating from the Stage Art Department, Central Academy of Drama, he once performed in TV series Glory Days and taught at the Beijing Qingmei Huiteng Art Training Centre.

SUN Chenxing is a young dramatist, musician and executive director of the CHEN Xinyi Art Centre. In 2018, he was enrolled in the opera director training programme of the China National Arts Fund. He served as an assistant director in operas Turandot, LAN Huahua, Visitors on the Snow Mountain and dramas Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice. He performed in the operas La Traviata, The Daughter of the Party and The Spring River, dramas SHANG Yang, Bird Man and Going North. He was deputy stage director in Han Opera Song of Luxurious Garment, Fujian opera Ode to Orchid, drama Going North, children's drama My Mother Is a Horse and opera Le Pari. He directs national comedy opera LIU Ziqing’s Trifles, drama Depot No. 51 and environmental drama Giannni Schicchi. With him as the director, national comedy opera LIU Ziqing’s Trifles won “Five-One Project” Award by Shaanxi Province. Dialect-based drama Depot No. 51 won the first prize in Joint Performance of the Outstanding Shanghai Private Theatrical Troupes.
