Emperor Yang of Sui, YANG Guang, is besieged on the Siping Mountain and summons LI Yuanba to rescue him. LI Yuan, knowing that QIN Qiong is at Wagangzhai and that QIN Qiong had once saved him at Lintong, worries that LI Yuanba may hurt QIN Qiong, and orders CHAI Shao to accompany him. He also instructs LI Yuanba to visit his mother first. There, Mrs. LI hangs up a portrait of QIN Qiong and tells LI Yuanba of the Lintong rescue, reminding him to spare QIN Tong if they meet. Meanwhile, XU Maogong learns of LI Yuanba’s approach and is very alarmed. He hastily sends YOU Junda to join CHAI Shao, who proposes that all the military officers of Wagangzhai wear a yellow flags in the battle so that LI Yuanba can recognise and avoid them. All the Wagang leaders comply, except for PEI Yuanqing, who refuses out of pride. During the ensuing battle, LI Yuanba defeats every opposing force but steers clear when he spots QIN Qiong and others with the yellow flags. When he encounters PEI Yuanqing, LI Yuanba hammers him with three blows. Defeated, PEI Yuanqing runs away. YANG Lin intercepts PEI Yuanqing halfway, and PEI Yuanqing defeats YANG Lin utterly. However, feeling embarrassed to face others at Wagangzhai, PEI Yuanqing rides away alone.
