Magnificent Culture
Founded in 2008, the Beijing Magnificent Culture Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Magnificent Culture”) is one of the most prestigious creative hubs for Chinese theatre arts. It ranks among the most important and successful Chinese theatre producers that specialise in creating theatrical works under the guidance of theatre values, uphold the values of the times, insist on art innovation and carry forward the contemporary culture. The artistic director of Magnificent Culture is Mr. WANG Keran, a personage in China’s theatrical and cultural circles.
Magnificent Culture has created and produced a lot of excellent works, such as Love Letter, The New Wilderness, Ghetto, Magnificent Culture A Dream Like a Dream, Thunderstorm, Thunderstorm II, You and Me, Seven Magic Steps in Theatre, How Are You, A Shakespearean Adventure for Young Lads, Les Misérables and Crocodile. It has marketed these dramas and expanded their social influence, too. Moreover, Magnificent Culture has produced and promoted Saigon, the Best European Drama of the Year by New York Times, and Village.
Since its founding over a decade ago, Magnificent Culture has successively conceived, produced and launched more than 50 theatrical works. These productions have toured 46 cities, where they have been staged for more than 2,500 times, each under extremely high aesthetic standards and expressive criteria. With their huge stage scale and high artistic value, those works have attracted different audiences, exerting enormous influence throughout the Chinese-speaking cultural circles. Magnificent Culture is also a high-level Chinese theatre producer that enjoys a really high reputation in Europe.
For more than ten years, Magnificent Culture has been devoted to producing top-grade Chinese theatrical works and marketing them to boost cultural consumption among most Chinese people. In its social action, Magnificent Culture put forward a unique concept of theatre production - “Emotional consumption is a productive force”. Guided by this concept, it explored the fundamental relationship between cultural values and market demand. Then under high aesthetic standards, it set two yearly targets, developing an annual theatre production system. One of the two targets is to endow every production with an overwhelmingly high artistic and ideological value. The other target is to enhance the social influence of every production so that it can help to make great success in business. With this, Magnificent Culture has launched a series of theatrical productions, including Love Letter and The New Wilderness, which have exerted significant social influence and garnered numerous awards. These productions all achieved success on the social, cultural, artistic and commercial levels in their time. Moreover, after their launch, these productions were all staged again and again in various major Chinese cities in the four years that followed, some even ten years.
