SUN Quan repeatedly demands that LIU Bei return Jingzhou, but fails. He then adopts ZHOU Yu’s “beauty trap” scheme to lure LIU Bei across the Yangtze river and coerce him into returning Jingzhou. ZHUGE Liang sends ZHAO Yun to accompany and protect LIU Bei on the trip to Wu. Before their departure, ZHUGE Liang gives ZHAO Yun three “brocade bags” containing secret plans. After LIU Bei and ZHAO Yun cross the river, they open the first bag, which instructs LIU Bei to pay a visit to the elder statesman of Eastern Wu, QIAO Xuan. QIAO Xuan has always favoured reconciliation between SUN Quan and LIU Bei and advocates joining forces against CAO Cao. He informs Lady Wu, SUN Quan’s mother, of the proposed marriage alliance between SUN Quan’s little sister SUN Shangxiang and LIU Bei. Lady Wu summons SUN Quan for questioning and only then learns the truth, immediately rebuking him. Seizing the opportunity, QIAO Xuan proposes that SUN Shangxiang be married to LIU Bei. Lady Wu therefore arranges for a meeting at Ganlu Temple. There, QIAO Xuan does his utmost to praise LIU Bei, and Lady Wu ultimately accepts him as her son-in-law. Seeing that the beauty trap has failed, ZHOU Yu then attempts to detain LIU Bei with pleasures and entertainment. LIU Bei becomes so delighted that he forgets all thought of returning home. ZHAO Yun then opens the second brocade bag and spreads a false report that CAO Cao has sent troops to attack the state of Jingxiang. Alarmed, LIU Bei decides at once to return to Jingzhou, and SUN Shangxiang, now his wife, willingly chooses to go with him. Upon hearing the news, ZHOU Yu dispatches troops in pursuit. LU Su tries to dissuade him, but ZHOU Yu refuses to listen and personally leads the chase. Then, ZHAO Yun opens the third brocade bag and follows ZHUGE Liang’s strategy, having SUN Shangxiang step forward to rebuke and drive back the pursuers. By the time ZHOU Yu himself arrives, ZHUGE Liang has already reached the riverbank with reinforcements, and ZHANG Fei, who has been lying in ambush, also charges out. Humiliated and left with no way to save face, ZHOU Yu withdraws his troops in gloom.

Synopsis
The scholar ZHANG Gong is traveling to the capital to take the imperial examination when he passes by Pujiu Temple and happens to meet CUI Yingying, the daughter of a prime minister. The two fall in love at first sight. When rebel forces surrounds the temple and seek to force Yingying into marriage, Madam CUI promises that whoever could lift the siege would be allowed to marry her. After ZHANG enlists his friend General DU Que to rescue the temple, Madam CUI goes back on her word and refuses the marriage agreement. The maid Hongniang, moved by loyalty and righteousness, secretly carries letters and messages between them, helping ZHANG and CUI Yingying meet beneath the moonlight. Their affection deepens, and they pledge themselves to each other in private. When Madam CUI discovers the affair, she does everything she could to stop them, but after Hongniang argues persuasively on their behalf, she finally has no choice but to consent to the marriage. ZHANG then continues on to the capital to take the examination, completing a love story that has been celebrated through the ages.

October 7^th, Peking Opera YANG Yanhui Visits His Mother

Synopsis
During the Battle of Jinsha Beach between the Northern Song and the Liao Dynasties, the YANG family generals suffer a disastrous defeat. YANG Yanhui(YANG Silang), is captured and, under the assumed name Mu Yi, is later chosen by Empress Dowager Xiao of the Liao as a royal son-in-law. He marries Princess Tiejing and lives with her for 15 years. Later, XIAO Tianzuo of the Liao sets up the Heavenly Gate Formation, and Madam SHE, YANG's mother, arrives at the frontier supervising the transport of provisions and directing the battle. Upon learning that his mother has come in person, YANG Silang is overwhelmed with longing to see her, yet is unable to pass through the border checkpoints. He reveals his true identity to Princess Tiejing, who, understanding the greater cause, steals Empress Dowager Xiao's command arrow to help him leave the pass. YANG Silang hurries back to the Song camp overnight and reunites with Madam SHE and his family, pouring out the sorrow of 15 years of separation. At dawn, unwilling to implicate the princess and his family, he resolutely returns to the Liao. In the end, after the princess pleads on his behalf, Empress Dowager Xiao pardons him.
