May 16th saw the kickoff of a series of performances hosted by the NCPA and co-organized by the Tianjin Jingju Theatre Company in honour of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Peking Opera master YANG Baosen.

In memory of him, NCPA invites several generations of artists of the YANG School to re-stage classic masterpieces of the YANG School, including the full-length WU Zixu, General YANG, Cursing CAO Cao through Drumming and MA Su’s Loss of Jieting·The Empty Fort Strategy·Executing MA SU for His Misconduct to reveal the prosperity of the YANG School art to inherit and carry forward excellent traditional Chinese culture.(KANG Wansheng)

The followers of the YANG School, including WAN Lin, LIU Jianlin, YANG Shaopeng, LI Jun, DU Zhenjie, ZHANG Ke, WANG Ping, YANG Naipeng and YE Peng, as well as admirers of the YANG School art, such as LING Ke, appeared one after another, declaring their determination to inherit the YANG School art. They revealed the eternal charm of the YANG School art by singing popular classic arias from Cursing CAO Cao through Drumming, LI Ling Tombstone and Hongyang Cave. (WANG Yan)
Then, three generations of one family, including YANG Naipeng, YANG Shaopeng and YANG Zesong, performed excerpts from Wenzhao Pass and Dingjun Mountain, suggesting that the Peking Opera art has qualified successors.(DU Zhenjie)
Afterwards, three famous painted-face role layers of Tianjin, including MENG Guanglu, DENG Muwei and KANG Wansheng, as well as a famous artist of the YU School WANG Peiyu, and famous female role players WANG Yan and CHEN Yuan, came on stage one after another to sing classic arias of Peking Opera.(WANG Ping)
YANG Baosen’s daughter YANG Wenhui and son YANG Min, as well as other famous Peking Opera artists, such as YANG Naipeng, WANG Ping and MENG Guanglu, were specially invited.(DENG Muwei)
