Fantastic performances were presented during the 5th Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition Opening Ceremony

On the evening of 13th, the 5th IBCC formally kicked of at the NCPA Theatre, hosted by dancer and actor YIN Fang, the principal dancer at the National Ballet of China ZHANG Jian, the former principal dancer at the Birmingham Royal Ballet CAO Chi, and principal dancer at the San Francisco Ballet TAN Yuanyuan. At the opening ceremony, ZHANG Jian and WU Sicong performed Permanent Yesterday.

YIN Fang and WU Mengke, a dancer at the Dance Company I of Netherlands Dance Theatre, performed Where Two Ends Meet, which was specially choreographed for the opening ceremony, showing the audience the enormous vitality of young Chinese dancers.

TAN Yuanyuan and Steven Morse performed The Infinite Ocean, showing their superb dancing skills.

In addition to the fascinating performances given by the four hosts, the previous prizewinners reappeared, too. KOU Zuquan and MA Minghao, dancers at the Guangzhou Ballet, performed the Diana & Actaeon Pas de Deux, which is full of Greek mythological flavour.

LIN Xue, dancer at the Hamburg Ballet, worked with the principal dancer Edvin Revazov in performing The Little Mermaid Pas de Deux, giving a different interpretation of this classical fairy tale.

LIANG Zecheng, a principal dancer at the Pennsylvania Ballet, worked with Thayz Golz in performing a pas de deux from the full-length classical ballet Le Corsaire, showing their strength and beauty with highly difficult techniques.

BAI Dingkai and Melissa Chapski, dancers at the Dutch National Ballet, performed Embers Pas de Deux.

AO Dingwen and WANG Zhanfeng, principal dancers and leading artists of the Liaoning Ballet, performed The Nutcracker Pas de Deux, looking graceful and warm.

YU Hang and Jun Joonhyuk, artists from the Royal Ballet, performed the Grand Pas Classique, showing their consummate skills.

QIU Yunting and WU Sicong, leading artists of the National Ballet of China, performed the Pas de Deux of Kitri and Basil from ACT III of Don Quixote with ballet students from the Affiliated Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy.

The students from the Morning Star Ballet and the promising ballet students from the Department of Ballet of the Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy performed The Dream Starts Here.

The students also performed The Image of March respectively. Their confident dance steps showed the audience how promising the Chinese ballet is.
