Chinese Operas Marking NCPA 10th Anniversary will kick off. In the nearly 100 days to come, many famous performers from eight Chinese opera genres, including Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, Yue Opera, Huangmei Opera, Ping Opera, Hunan Opera, Yu Opera and Pingtan Opera, will perform 20 programmes on the stage, to show audience different types of Chinese operas that are extensive, profound and glamorous.
Chinese Operas Marking NCPA 10th Anniversary will kick off on September 12th
NCPA will invite 15 Chinese opera troupes to stage performances. Most of the programmes are of traditional Chinese operas, including Peking Opera LÜ Bu & Diaochan, The Chinese Orphan, The Story Of SU San, The Return of the Phoenix, The Unicorn Purse, Hongyang Cave, Kunqu Opera The Palace of Eternal Youth,and The Peony Pavilion, Yue Opera A Dream of Red Mansions and Pingtan Opera. Meanwhile, NCPA Peking Opera Red Cliff, and other new works such as Hunan Opera Safeguarding the Country, Yue Opera ZHANG Yuniang, Ping Opera A Beautiful Night, Huangmei Opera Heshen Stands Trial in front of JIN Guangti and Yu Opera CHANG Xiangyu will present the originality and vitality of Chinese opera art brought out in the development of era.

On September 12th, Hangzhou Yue Opera Theatre A Dream of Red Mansions will kick off “Invited Chinese Operas in Celebration of NCPA 10th Anniversary”. On top of that, Suzhou Wuzhong Pingtan Troupe, Changsha Hunan Opera Protection &Heritage Centre, and Zhejiang Yue Opera Troupe will show audience the charm of the Yangtze River Delta region in September.
Audience will see different types of Chinese operas that are extensive, profound and glamorous
The Yue Opera A Dream of Red Mansions was produced in 1958. Then, two Yue Opera performing artists XU Yulan and WANG Wenjuan starred in the Yue Opera film A Dream of Red Mansions in 1962, making it more popular throughout the country. Over the last 10 years, Hangzhou Yue Opera Theatre performed A Dream of Red Mansions many times at NCPA. This time, Yue Opera masters ZHANG Xiaojun, LI Min and XIE Qunying (winners of the “Plum Blossom Prize”), and many outstanding young Yue Opera performers will appear on the stage with this Yue Opera classics.
NCPA will invite 15 Chinese opera troupes to stage performances
In addition to the famous Yue Opera A Dream of Red Mansions, Zhejiang Yue Opera Troupe will perform its original opera ZHANG Yuniang on September 19th to 20th, to act out how ZHANG Yuniang, a poetess in the Song Dynasty, is concerned about her country and countrymen in her life, and how she proves her constancy in love when maintaining a gnawing romantic relationship with SHEN Quan. In terms of cast, the opera features a group of famous and outstanding young performers from Zhejiang Yue Opera Troupe. ZHANG Yuniang will be played by XIE Lili, and SHEN Quan will be played by WANG Shihan.
The Operas include Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, Yue Opera, Huangmei Opera, Ping Opera, Hunan Opera, Yu Opera and Pingtan Opera
On September 16th to 17th, Changsha Hunan Opera Protection & Heritage Centre will appear at NCPA with the Hunan Opera Safeguarding the Country. Safeguarding the Country, which stars the Hunan Opera performance artists LUO Zhiyong and CAO Rulong, tells a story about CAI E, a national hero from Hunan province, waging a national protection war to guard the republic at the cost of his life a hundred years ago. The opera presents the essence of the Hunan opera art, particularly the charm of the Hunan Opera art in tune. On the basis of traditional inheritance, the artistic expressiveness is enriched and enhanced by reference to other artistic forms.
Many famous performers from eight Chinese opera genres will perform this time
On September 13th to 14th, Suzhou Wuzhong Pingtan Troupe will give two performances, bringing Nice Scenery in Suzhou, excerpt from MENG Lijun, excerpt from An Incense Ball, Autumn Thoughts, Visiting Aunt Again and Palace Grudge, among others.
