On October 14^th, the world-renowned German pianist Gerhard Oppitz will visit the NCPA again to hold the spotlight in “NCPA Piano Virtuosos 2018.” He will perform the classics by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Chopin for Beijing audiences, and demonstrate the great charms of piano music from Classical Era to Romantic Era.

In February 2014, Oppitz held two concerts at the NCPA. In the recital of German and Austrian works, he presented the purely profound and simple style of German school. Four years later, Oppitz will come to Beijing again, and arrange for the most representative classic works by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Chopin. From the balanced unity of Classical music to the mysterious beauty of Impressionist music, a diverse and romantic music feast will be presented for Chinese audiences. In the first half of the concert, Oppitz will play Piano Sonata No. 18 in E-flat Major, a work by Beethoven, which symbolizes the mature music composition of the great composer. Its second movement breaks through the traditional movement structure of sonata, which is replaced by a scherzo for the first time. The whole work radiates full of vibrant emotions. At the concert, Oppitz will also interpret Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 19 in C Minor, D. 958. This work exemplifies Schubert’s classical and romantic art style in his late years.

Year of 2018 marks the 100^th Anniversary of Debussy’s death. In order to express respect for this great musician, Oppitz will present Images Pour Piano No. 1-6 in the second half of the concert. Through two sets of Images Pour Piano, Debussy creates a new type of harmony language and unveils a new acoustics world. Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-flat Major, Op. 22 will be the finale of this upcoming concert, which is a work by Chopin. Oppitz will sparkle “Chopin-style” brilliant skills through his exquisite performance style, thereby fully showing the symphonic effect of the piano.
