Gewandhausorchester returns to the NCPA

On June 8^th, Gewandhausorchester returned to the NCPA after a decade under the baton of its Music Director Andris Nelsons. This was the maestro’s NCPA debut.

Gewandhausorchester returned to the NCPA under the baton of its Andris Nelsons.

Established in 1743, Gewandhausorchester has been recognised with the award of the European Cultural Heritage Label. The orchestra had collaborated with great composers including Bach, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Tchaikovsky, etc.

In 2009, the orchestra made their NCPA debut under the baton of Riccardo Chailly, and impressed music lovers with their unique interpretations of Mendelssohn and Mahler.

Nelsons and Gewandhausorchester received warm welcome from the audiences.

In February 2018, Andris Nelsons assumed the position of Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, a post he holds concurrently with that of Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO). In 2020, Nelsons will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic's illustrious New Year's Day Concert, broadcast around the world.

Nelsons and Gewandhausorchester performed Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5.

Before the concert started, Nelsons and Gewandhausorchester received warm welcome from the audiences. At the concert, they presented Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5, an exclusive programme special to their Beijing stop. The concert won standing ovation from the music lovers.

On June 9^th, the maestro will bring Russian symphony music feast with Gewandhausorchester and violinist Baiba Skride, presenting Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.
