On October 1st, drama Live Broadcast: The Founding Ceremony of PRC, commissioned by the NCPA and produced and performed by the National Theatre of China, premiered successfully at Theatre. It will run for eight performances until October 7th.
The drama brings to the stage for the first time the behind-the-scenes story of the live broadcast of the founding of the PRC in 1949, as a grand celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the event and a tribute to every ordinary but great Chinese citizen who contributed to the founding of the country.
The production team for the drama showcases the strength of the National Theatre of China. The drama was created by TIAN Qinxin as director and scriptwriter, LIU Jinni and JIANG Wenliang as co-scriptwriters, together with dramaturg LUO Bing, advisors SHI Bohua and BI Lianzhu, broadcast director RAN Di, executive director LIU Dan, visual director WANG Chen, stage designer LI Yang and lighting designer WANG Qi; outstanding actors such as ZHANG Tong, WU Yue, TAO Hong, WU Bi, LIU Wei, SU Qing, HAN Qing, TIAN Zheng, MA Ang and ZHAO Junyan join the cast to interpret the drama together.
The drama has adopted advanced installation and digital technology and incorporated popular elements such as espionage and romance into the patriotic theme, making it more philosophical, enjoyable and artistic.
LU Haiyu, the director of the technical department of Beiping Xinhua Radio, played by WU Yue, and ZHAO Yingjie, the former head of the technical section of the KMT Beiping Radio, played by WU Bi, receive a top-secret mission; the staff belonging to the two camps of Yan’an Xinhua Radio and KMT Beiping Radio quickly form a provisional team to complete the live broadcast of the founding Ceremony of the PRC.
As the time for the founding of the PRC draws nearer, ZHAO Yingjie’s job becomes more and more difficult due to the suspicion of GAO Damei, played by TAO Hong, the distrust of his old classmate LU Haiyu, and the complicated attitude of Old XIA, played by LIU Wei. A crisis of trust is on the horizon.
The scene of ZHAO Yingjie saving his life seven years ago is recreated in front of LU Haiyu and the audience. By lighting and instant shooting, images from two time periods overlap. Between reality and fiction, the audience travels back and forth between the past and the present.
During the National Day holiday, the cast of the play will appear at the NCPA in three groups. From October 5th onwards, ZHANG Tong will take over the role of WU Yue to deliver the hidden story behind the Founding Ceremony of the PRC with TAO Hong and SU Qing respectively.
