“Chinese Dance for 12 Days” co-held by NCPA and China Dancers Association will kick off at NCPA from July 5th to 30th, 2017. Six Chinese leading figures in dance circle including XIN Lili, LIN Hwai-min, SHAN Chong, JIN Xing, LIU Min and LUO Bin, will sincerely recommend excellent self-choreographed dancing programmes from six young dancers.
Still of Inspire
The six dancing programmes are distinctive. Shanghai Ballet director and Chinese first-level actress XIN Lili recommends WU Huseng and CHEN Qi’s Inspire. WU Husheng and CHEN Qi are principal performers and young choreographers of Shanghai Ballet. They get inspired in their own experiences for self-choreography, direction and performance and act out choice, parting, perplexity, return and hope that are commonly seen in human life. The performance will be shown in a body language combining neoclassical ballet, modern ballet and contemporary ballet.
Still of Kids
Lin Hwai-min, founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, recommends Kuan-Hsiang Liu’s Kids that has just won the performing arts award at the 15th Taishin Arts Award. Liu made the dance from his memory of sorrow following the clue of his mother’s voice and other sounds he recorded when looking after his critically ill mother. Lin says, “The dance is not about a scene or story, even not only about the mother-son relationship. It is dreamy and realistic, confusing the eye, and the feeling turns to be like a burst of surging waves. From this dance, we can see sorrow, nightmare and the absurdity of life. It is special.”
Still of Intellectuals’ Style
SHAN Chong, Chinese first-level actress and famous dance performing artist at China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, recommends the Intellectuals’ Style by HU Yang, a principal dancer from the same theatre. HU has built lots of ancient Chinese intellectual images in dancing, and in particular won the excellent performance award for Confucius from the Ministry of Culture. Talking of the choreography of Intellectuals’ Style, HU says that she hopes to reveal the connotation and quintessence of the “intellectuals” in traditional Chinese culture.
Still of Nine-coloured Deer
JIN Xing, famous dancer and artistic director of Jin Xing Dance Theatre, recommends ZHANG Yashu’s Nine-coloured Deer. JIN Xing explains, “The Nine Coloured Deer is based on Dunhuang fresco The Figure of Nine-coloured Deer. In the 1980s, The Figure of Nine-coloured Deer was made into an animation film. ZHANG Yashu expresses her feeling about murals in body language, and this is worth watching.”
Still of Spring in Autumn
LIU Min, vice president of Chinese Dancers Association and head of Department of Dance, People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art, recommends young choreographer HUANG Jiayuan’s Spring in Autumn, which deeply reveals complex emotions of young people, who still wander in their life, in the presence of “old age, sickness and death”.
Still of Intangible or Tangible
LUO Bin, Party branch secretary, standing vice president and secretary general of Chinese Dancers Association, recommends young choreographer NIAN Yunhua’s Intangible or Tangible. NIAN Yunhua keeps exploring the creation of folk dances, and devotes himself to give dancing a sense of nature and true sentiments.
