NCPA Drama Commission Suspect Sherlock Holmes goes on stage at Beijing Performing Arts Centre

The three major cultural buildings, including the Beijing Performing Arts Centre, Beijing Library of the Capital Library of China, and the Beijing Grand Canal Museum at the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center have officially opened. Meanwhile, the NCPA’s first suspense drama commission Suspect Sherlock Holmes was grandly staged at the Multi-functional Theatre of the Beijing Performing Arts Centre during its Opening Week.

Suspect Sherlock Holmes is adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The NCPA interprets the story in an unprecedented way: three years after Holmes perishes together with Prof. Moriarty, a series of incredible events unfold, revealing the shocking truth behind it.

Artists ZHAO Ling, FENG Yang, SUN Lishi, WU Song, WANG Yiqing and MA Qinglong gave a vivid portrayal of the characters. Witty, decisive and gentlemanly detective Sherlock Holmes, faithful and upright Dr John Watson, gloomy and capricious Mycroft Holmes, honest and lovely Lestrade, and kindhearted and humorous Mrs. Hudsonm, etc. Many classic characters appeared on the stage, delighting the audience.

The interior environment of the Multi-functional Theatre of the Beijing Performing Arts Centre gave the audience an unforgettable experience, but also presented the drama in a more innovative manner. The lighting, choreography and sounds were mobilised all-roundly, taking the audience to the endless rainy night of London, standing under the dim streetlights and entering the uncanny crime scenes. At the same time, the artists gave a witty and vivid body performance, running and chasing across the auditorium to closely interact with the audience.
