Mr. Zhang is presently the president and chief artistic director of Shanghai Opera House and permanent conductor of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. In his artistic life, he has cooperated with many famous national and international opera houses and symphony orchestras and conducted and performed a series of classic works. Every year he has a lot of cooperation with many Chinese symphony orchestras and is quite active on national and international music stage.
Mr. Qin has performed extensively throughout Asia, Australia and Europe. As a concerto soloist he has performed with the Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmanian, New Zealand, BBC Scottish, and Singapore symphony orchestras, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Sinfonia 21, State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, Warsaw Sinfonia, and the National Symphony and National Radio orchestras of China. He has worked with many conductors including Alexander Lazarev, Valery Polinsky, Lord Menuhin, Simone Young, Jorge Mester, Martyn Brabbins and Vernon Handley.
Mr. Qin has given recitals and broadcasts extensively throughout Australia, Asia the U.K. including recordings for ABC Classics, Channel Classics, BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. In 1997 he recorded his first CD featuring the Dvor Cello Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations for the ABC Classics label with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2000, he will give a solo recital, and take part in an Australian Gala Evening, both at Wigmore Hall in London. He will perform the Elgar Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and concertos with the Melbourne Symphony, Western Australian Symphony and Australian Chamber orchestras.
Mr. Qin plays a Vincenzo Panormo cello circa 1791 belonging to Ralph Kirshbaum.
She has taken the first place in the junior group at the 16th International Music Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest and the golden prize of violin at the 8th Chinese Golden Bell Award for Music.
In recent years, the orchestra has been focusing on improving its artistic level, invited world-class conducting masters, such as Sir Simon Denis Rattle, Seiji Ozawa and Chung Myung-whun for instruction, and worked with world-renowned performers and singers, including Pinchas Zukerman, Rostropovich, Yu Lina and Liao Changyong, etc.. The Shanghai Conservatory of Music Orchestra is a resident performance orchestra of the "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival and the Shanghai International Art Festival.

Dedicated to the staging of epic operas, ballets and dance dramas, the golden Opera House is considered the centerpiece of the NCPA. Its main tone is golden color, which looks glamorous and splendid. In the auditorium are the stalls and three higher levels of balconies, which can seat an audience of 2,207, including the venue of SRO. It is equipped with a modern stage that can be moved up/down/backward/forward or rotated, a ballet stage that can slant, and a rising orchestra pit for the triple winds orchestra. All the cutting-edge staging mechanism provides artists with enormous possibilities of creative performance.
