Der Rosenkavalier (The Knight of the Rose) is a three-act opera created in 1900, which is one of Richard Strauss' most renowned works. The original German libretto was finished by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. On January 26, 1911, the opera was premiered at the Koenigliches Opernhaus in Dresden.
The story is set in the Vienna aristocratic society in the 18th century, with luxurious vulgar life as plot. It flawlessly integrates the romanticism with nostalgic atmosphere; the love among three protagonists is exquisite and true. It's more like a modern version of Le Nozze di Figaro.
