NCPA opera commission The Dawns Here Are Quiet will be presented for the third round

In celebration of NCPA’s 10th Anniversary, opera commission The Dawns Here Are Quiet, adapted on the basis of Boris Vasilyev’s novel of the same name, will be staged for the third round from October 21st to October 24th, 2017.


NCPA opera commission The Dawns Here Are Quiet is created by the Chinese first-class team with all its strength. Librettist WAN Fang highlighted the striking contrast between beauty and cruelty. According to composer TANG Jianping, this opera not only retains the original Russian style, but also is imprinted with Chinese featured elements. Director WANG Xiaoying also presented a poetic stage to critically denounce ruthless and cruel war. “Although The Dawns Here Are Quiet focuses on war theme, no gunshot is triggered and even no enemy but dramatic scenes with poetic imaginations are on the stage”, said WANG.


The third round of performance for The Dawns Here Are Quiet will be under the baton of ZHANG Guoyong, who was also the conductor in the first round of performance. Baritones YUAN Chenye and ZHANG Yang will play the leading male role of Warrant Officer Vaskov. Female singers XU Xiaoying, YANG Qi, WANG Hongyao, LIU Ying, LI Xintong, ZHANG Xin, ZHANG Zhuo, DONG Fang, LIU Lian and KONG Di will respectively play the roles of five female soldiers.
